News Update

Did You Know....

China has recently reached a health “tipping point,” with chronic conditions replacing infectious diseases as the leading causes of early death. Rising wealth, rapid urbanization, poor diets, and less physical activity are just some of the factors behind this shift. Stroke, heart disease and lung and liver cancer have outpaced the rate of lower respiratory diseases and neonatal disorders, which were once the top causes of death. You can learn more about this shift here.

Future Watch

Research shows that about half of the jobs available today will be disrupted by automation in the future, and four out of ten required core job skills will change significantly over the next three years. For corporations and countries to succeed, the workforce will have to be trained in skills that will be relevant for the economy of the future. While some governments and industries are making progress towards that upskilling, others are lagging behind. The authors of this article summarize a report that ranks how proficient countries and businesses are when it comes to essential skills of business, technology and data science.

What Your Peers Are Asking

Expat Dental Coverage. Recently, members have asked whether dental implants are covered for expats. Coverage of dental implants depends upon plan language and plan type. Generally, dental coverage is included for expats and implants are not excluded. However, there are often spend limits which may impact practical coverage. In “self-Insured” plans employers rarely opt-in to cover dental implants and then if covered would be subject to medical necessity guidelines.
